Arik Air Prepares for 10th Birthday

In preparation for the 10th birthday celebration of Arik Air in December 2016, the company has decided to refresh the look of uniforms worn by all employees. Arik Air has appointed Ijade Egbin Consult to conduct and coordinate a search of the Nigerian fashion community to find a designer who can bring this project to reality and not only design a new uniform but also take it to production.

The winner of the contest that is to be run through 2016 will be commissioned for a period of three (3) years to produce all uniforms for the airline. Arik Air would like to help showcase Nigerian fashion globally. Last year Arik Air sponsored a group of top Nigerian designers led by Ijade Egbin Consult at the South African Men’s Fashion Week held in Cape Town and again at New York Fashion Week in September.

Arik Air is adamant that the new uniform design must reflect the rich culture of Nigeria and its vibrant fashion forward positioning, and looks forward to showing the new designs in all destinations to which it flies.

Rodger Whittle, Senior Vice President, Standards & Service Delivery for Arik Air who is coordinating the project on behalf of the company said “As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are keen to give back to the communities that we serve and are very excited to see what lies ahead – I look forward to participating on the selection committee and to choosing local designs that will align with our brand. Nigerian fashion is colorful, fun and exciting and we hope to harness not only the energy but also elements of the rich Nigerian culture in our new uniform reveal”.

Dr. Michael Arumemi-Ikhide, Group Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air stated “we have been the leader in our aviation community and have forged a modern, safe and reliable air transportation system in Nigeria where previously it did not exist. 2016 is our opportunity to celebrate all that we have achieved. A new uniform designed at home that reflects who we are is one more step in defining our future, a future that we wish to share and celebrate with you all”.

In the days ahead designers should start to look for information about how to enter the contest and where to submit their designs. More details of the contest will be released in due course.
