The 16 Fastest Cars in the World

These are the fastest cars in the world as of last year that you can legally drive on the streets today. We list the 10 top speeds, spread out between 16 exhilarating rides.

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (France)
The Bugatti Veyron line has been widely accepted as one of the fastest street-legal cars in the world since 2005 when they first went in production. But Bugatti hasn’t stopped, producing newer and faster models of the Veyron every year or so. All of their tinkering over the past eight years has accumulated to the pantie-dropping-ly beautiful, aneurysm-inducing-ly fast Veyron Super Sport, the current first place holder.

2. Hennessey Venom GT (USA)
Though it has only reached one (only one) mile per hour of velocity under that of the Veyron Super Sport, American hyper-car brand Hennessey claims that given enough space, the Venom GT can reach a top speed of a staggering 275 mph. Because its claimed ability is so much more than that of the Veyron, and because the tested speed came so close to it, we had to implement a tie for first place.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R (Sweden)
The Swedish brand has always been a bit of an enigma in the car world, with unverified rumors of speed records and controversies over street-legality. Fortunately, this model has been officially clocked at 260 mph and, luckily enough, it is one of few Koenigseggs that are street-legal in the United States. Unfortunately, you still can’t afford it.

4. SSC (Shelby Super Cars) Ultimate Aero (USA)
Shelby is the closest thing to a turf rival that Hennessey has, as they both produce only limited-edition hyper-cars and souped-up versions of domestic brands’ sportier vehicles such as Ford Mustangs, Cadillac CT-Vs, Dodge SRTs, and the like. The Ultimate Aero held the title of the fastest car in the world for three years from 2007 to 2010, until the contenders above surpassed its performance and pushed it to third. Maybe SSC’s upcoming Tuatura can claim it back.

5. 9ff GT9-R (Germany)
The 9ff is a German tuning company (similar to Hennessey and Shelby) operating out of Dortmund, and the GT9-R is its revision of the Porsche Carrera. Keeping consistent with Porsche’s ability to be quick, the GT9-R can hit 60 mph in under three seconds. So if you ever take it off the track, remember to put a stopper in your coffee.

6. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo (USA)
One of the older cars on the list, the S7 came into production in 2000. As the first true (and prevailing) contender to the likes of the McLaren F1, the S7 gained praise for its 8-mile-per-hour dominance as well as its innovative styling, mixing a cutely bug-eyed face with a mean vent-covered body.

7. Koenigsegg CCX (Sweden)
A predecessor of the Agera R, the CCX first appeared in American markets in 2006. Again, this Koenigsegg is in fact USA-approved, but you’d have to sell your house to afford it.

8. McLaren F1 (Great Britain)
The McLaren F1, first on production in 1992, is a legend in the racing world, far surpassing the abilities of other track contenders of the nineties and even of opponents today. It’s really more suitable in a museum than in a garage.

9. Zenvo ST1 (Denmark)
You read that right – number seven hails from Denmark. Only 15 cars are made, and Zenvo guarantees pan-continental house calls if your ST1 needs maintenance.

10. Pagani Huayra (Italy)
Paganis are crazy fast and crazy cool. Any preteen who knows his cars will tell you a Pagani is the first thing on his lottery money wish list, right before the trophy wife that comes with it. Unfortunately for them, Paganis aren’t street-legal in the U.S. so for now expect to find them on the streets of Monaco and in the driveways of eccentric Russian mobsters and Arab sheikhs.

11. Gumpert Apollo (Germany)
A bit clunky, but it gets the job done. That is, of course, if the job is to give whiplash to unsuspecting passengers. It definitely looks menacing and its counterpart the Apollo R (though not as fast) looks even meaner.

12. Noble M600 (Great Britain)
It’s quite vanilla. But despite the M600 being both the most simply styled and the least expensive on the list (though neither are saying much), it hauls ass. It’s discrete when you need it to be and an eye-catcher when you want it to be.

13. Lamborghini Veneno (Italy)
Hint: Paint matte black to feel more like Batman. Of course, only Bruce Wayne has the money and connections to obtain a Veneno, as not only does the price tag rest just under $4 million, but only three of the Italian bulls (as all Lambos are named after fighting bulls) were made worldwide. Not even the pope could get one.

14. Ferrari LaFerrari (Italy)
The only hybrid on the list, the upcoming LaFerrari is a reincarnation of the legendary Enzo. Hopefully there won’t be as many LaFerrari crashes as was the case with its forefather (consult YouTube if you don’t understand the reference), as it is one of the leanest, most beautiful Ferraris of the 21st century. With edges so sharp and fine, you can cut yourself just by glancing by it too quickly.

15. Aston Martin One-77 (Great Britain)
The next logical trade-in for James Bond, the One-77 is as sexy as, and faster than, any Aston; and it’s easy to imagine rocket launchers popping out of the long hood or huge grill. Plus, much like Mr. Bond’s female acquaintances, the One-77 seems like something we’d like to wake up to in the morning

16. Koenigsegg One (Sweden)
This Mega super car is creating six uniquely developed and designed production cars – the One:1 program. This is one of the most exclusive production car programs ever envisaged.
The hp to kg curb weight ratio is an astonishing 1:1. This is the  “dream” equation previously thought impossible. On top of this, the One:1 is the first homologated production car in the world with one Megawatt of power, thereby making it the world´s first series produced Megacar.
These are the reasons for naming the car One:1.

007's new Aston Martin

James Bond is synonymous with cool gadgets, beautiful women and, of course, fast cars. This one, however, is one nobody will be able to buy.

On Thursday director Sam Mendes revealed the title of the 24th film based on Ian Fleming's iconic British spy, as well as the hero's new ride. Continuing the character's 50 year relationship with Aston Martin, Mendes worked directly with engineers and designers to create a vehicle—the DB10—specifically designed for the new film.

"To be partnering once again with EON Productions is great news for this company and for everyone around the world that loves to see Bond at the wheel of an Aston Martin," Dr. Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin, said in a statement.

There is a catch. Unlike previous models seen in Bond films, however, the DB10 will not be available to consumers. Only 10 models will be created and all of them will be used exclusively for filming.

While the new model doesn't come with a price tag, the company's 2014 DB9, starts at $183,700. Aston Martin reported earnings of £519 million ($809.35 million) in 2013 having sold only 575 vehicles. That represents a 13 percent increase in revenue from 2012.

Aston Martin vehicles have been featured in 11 of the 23 current films, according to the company, and the upcoming "Spectre" will mark the car's twelfth appearance.

The Aston Martin DB5 turned heads in several Bond films including "Thunderball," "Casino Royale," and "Skyfall." The DB5 was released three months prior to the filming of "Goldfing,er" and sported an array of gadgets: including machine guns, smoke screen, tire slashers, and an ejector seat.

According to National Auto Dealers Association (NADA), a used 1963 DB5 can now be sold for as much as $711,100 depending on its condition.

Aston Martin's 1968 DBS from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was driven by George Lazenby, the second actor to play the British secret agent with a license to kill. When it was released, that model sold for $16,850, but could sell for upwards of $115,000 today.

"The Living Daylights" introduced audiences to Timothy Dalton in the role of James Bond, and the 1985 Aston Martin V8. The car's original manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) was $96,000, and its retail value remains relatively unchanged with some auctions selling the vehicle for around $100,000.

The 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, which appears in Pierce Brosnan's "Die Another Day," had a sticker price of $228,000, but has depreciated quite a bit since its release. The model now has an average retail price of $75,500.

Yet despite the spy's long history with Aston Martin, Bond's first vehicle was actually a 1962 Sunbeam Alpine II. Featured in "Dr. No," the car had an MSRP of $2,595.

Today's retail value is more than ten times that: NADA estimates the Sunbeam could sell for $36,600.

"You Only Live Twice" was set primarily in Japan. Thus the Toyota (7203.T-JP) 2000 GT made an appearance in the film. The company only produced 351 models, some of which have sold at auctions for upwards of $1.1 million.

Other iconic vehicles include a 1974 AMC Hornet seen in "The Man with the Golden Gun," which has a current value of $3,775, and a 1976 Lotus Esprit S1 from "The Spy Who Loved Me," that could fetch up to $18,700.

2014 Top Cars That Run On Electric Power

BMW i3: The electric reality

Deliberately or otherwise, BMW waited for the likes of Nissan and Vauxhall to make their electric mistakes before embarking on its own electric city car. The i3 works because even if you eschew its green creds you have to love its stunning connectivity, practicality, sassy looks and super cabin. Also, for the terminally range anxious, there’s a range-extender version.

Toyota TS040: The racer

Ground-breaking petrol hybrid endurance racer came third at Le Mans. We have to love it: it has a supercapacitor on each axle!

BMW i8: The obsession

We love this car not because it’s perfect but because everything has been thought about and then thought about some more. The heavy lithium-ion batteries are the car’s spine, to assist weight distribution, and that weight is mitigated by aluminium and carbonfibre. Magnesium and foam technology inside further cut weight. Plus, of course, 135mpg, 49g/km and scissor doors? You need to ask?

 Mercedes W05: The F1 conqueror

While the wider debate about F1’s new regs and the lack of engine noise rages on, Merc built a hybrid racer so utterly brilliant it even made Nico Rosberg look like a decent driver.

 McLaren P1: Hyper-plug-in!

An F1 car for the road that you can plug into the mains? How otherworldly is that? Designed by a computer, looks like a spaceship.

Porsche 918: The one that started it all

We first broke the news about this car – part supercar, part race car, part vision of the future – in the spring of 2010. ‘There has never been a car like this,’ we said. This year we drove it. And we were right.

 LaFerrari: The Successor

With Enzo to live up to, Ferrari had to innovate and amaze. So it risked mating a V12 to an electric motor, with blissful results.

Tesla Model S: The threat to the establishment

Honestly? It’s taken us a while to fully understand how good this car is. Tesla’s previous effort was a slightly iffy Lotus-alike, but the all-electric Model S is simply astonishing: refined, beautifully built, amazing to drive and with a huge computer screen instead of a centre console. Germans beware!

17yr old boy commits suicide, shares photos on instagram before jumping into river

Seeing the smile on his face, you would think everything was fine with him but that's the smile of a young man about to end his life. He posted the pic on the left on instagram and wrote "I'm here" and on the pic on the right, he wrote "Smile. You've lived". 'I'm here' was him basically telling his followers that he'd arrived at the destination of his suicide. His final photo was a pic of his watch &he wrote "Time to see if my watch is waterproof" A few minutes after posting the pics and messages, he jumped from that rail you see in the pic into the Detroit River. His body was found a few hours later.

His name was Billy Watts and he was from Detroit. He'd suffered depression for many months which he openly talked about on instagram. He talked about how some people can't get out of depression no matter how much they try. This happened in October 2014. Continue...

Amen! Rascism may not allow ISIS team up with Boko Haram - US Intelligence

Found this report on NBC News. US Intelligence report suggests that racism will keep ISIS operating in Northern Africa from teaming up with Boko Haram. Amen! Read report below...
Long before ISIS militants beheaded Christians on a Libyan beach last week, Nigeria's Boko Haram was carrying out similar atrocities 1,500 miles to the south. Now that ISIS is operating in northern Africa, will the Syria-based organization join forces with the continent's largest Islamist terror group? Maybe not, say U.S. intelligence officials, and they suggest one obstacle is racism.
The Arab world is incredibly racist," explained a U.S. intelligence official. "They don't see black Africans as equivalent to them."
ISIS may show "affinity" with Boko Haram, said the official, "but they stop short of allegiance." Moreover, said the official, while Boko Haram has in the past year released videos to show "affiliation" with groups like ISIS, there's no evidence of either group sending members to fight with the other. And while Boko Haram has praised ISIS, and shown the ISIS flag in videos, ISIS has not reciprocated.
"There are still questions of the ISIS view of Boko Haram and Nigeria," said the official. "But Boko Haram does not operate in sync with ISIS. The caliphates are separate." There was concern last October when Boko Haram declared its caliphate that the two might team up, but there's no indication that's happening, said the official.
The groups differ in many ways. Both use social media, but the ISIS campaign is much more sophisticated - using more than 20 languages -- and attempts to communicate the Islamic rationale for its operations. Boko Haram posts increasingly slick videos on the web, like one released Tuesday that threatens the leaders of Cameroon, Benin and Chad, but its prime recruiting tool is older and simpler than social media. "Boko Haram," said one official, "uses fear."
The governance of their respective caliphates also differs. ISIS attempts to replace the bureaucracies it found in conquered territories with its own, while Boko Haram has been satisfied simply taking over villages and cities and establishing Sharia courts that mete out rough justice.
ISIS has more "hardcore" soldiers than Boko Haram -- about 26,000 to 31,000 compared to 4,000 to 6,000. ISIS is also more attractive to foreign fighters, with an estimated 2,700 Westerners having fought for the group. Intelligence officials say that other than a few fighters who've crossed the border into Nigeria from Cameroon, Chad and Niger, the numbers of foreign fighters in Boko Haram are negligible. There's no evidence, they say, of any North Americans or Europeans fighting in Nigeria.
But even if there is no link beyond shared values between the groups, ISIS may be a role model for Boko Haram, said Michael Sheehan, chairman of the Countering Terrorism Center at West Point. He said he's "not sure" Boko Haram would've "gone the caliphate route" if ISIS hadn't done so first.
"Each of them has been successful, reinforcing their own optimism, and that's not insignificant," said Sheehan.
And there is little difference in the level of violence perpetrated by the groups. An intelligence official told NBC News that many of the attacks and atrocities carried out by the Nigerian group have not been publicly reported publicly.
The two groups also share a crucial asset: a charismatic leader. Intelligence officials say that just as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's persona is central to ISIS, Abubakar Shekau's "fiery persona" has made him a strong commander-in-chief of Boko Haram -- one who would be difficult to replace.
"Everything starts with Shekau," said an intelligence official. "There doesn't appear to be a charismatic leader below him." Officials note that in videos made since the announcement of the caliphate, like Tuesday's, Shekau has presented himself less as a militant and more as a leader.
