Man sentenced for Stealing A Pot of Soup in Lagos

A Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday sentenced a 28yrs old man, Abiodun Ojedokun to six days of community service for the theft of a huge pot of soup. The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, sentenced the convict to 48 hours of community service for each of the three-number charge, after he had confessed to the offence.
Police say:
“The charged schemed with a few others, currently at large, to break into Mrs Gbadamosi Sanni’s shop at 2:00 a.m. They broke the locks and stole her substantial pot of soup, esteemed at N8,000.”
The convict, summoned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing, conceded to all the charges leveled against him.
“Based on the facts of this case before this court, the confirmed report and your plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to 48 hours community service on each of the counts of the charge,” Magostrate Bola Osunsanmi ruled.
The convict who was a casual worker committed the crime on September 20, 2014 at around 2:00 a.m at the Onipanu Model Market located in the Somolu area of Lagos State.
The prosecutor in charge of the case, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, when addressing the court said that the offences contravened with sections 285, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
According to NAN, the convict Ojedokun pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for leniency from the court, after confessing that the offence was committed because he was starving and was led by hunger.
