It is difficult to determine who the richest man to ever exist was. There have been various formulas used to scale rich historical figure's wealth, and unfortunately they don't always give the same results. Taking into account both inflation and currencies proves this task to be problematic.
Richest Man Ever Although there is no definitive answer to this mystery, there is no shortage of content to analyze. The two most likely candidates to hold the title of "richest man who ever lived" are:
Mansa Musa I, a man who was given the throne of the Mali Empire in 1312. This man's wealth has been adjusted to be the equivalent of anywhere between $100 billion to $400 billion today.
Richest Man Ever John Davison Rockerfeller lived in the 19th century and it is estimated that his peak wealth was the equivalent of $318 billion in 2007. Rockerfeller earned his wealth through the petroleum industry.
Richest Man Ever Both Mansa Musa I and John Davison Rockerfeller have been named the richest men ever several times in various articles, as has King Solomon, which is probably due to a quote from the bible that stated him to be the wealthiest man ever.
The lists of the richest man who ever lived are varied, and the sources of the articles may or may not be reliable. I would assume that certain people would find themselves in heated discussions about who the richest man who ever lived was. I fear that we will never truly know the answer to this puzzle.
