2015 AFCON: CAF to name new host tomorrow

The Confedera­tion of Africa Football (CAF) will tomorrow, at its executive committee meeting in Cairo, Egypt, name a new host for next year’s Africa Cup of Na­tions, following Moroc­co’s failure to meet the November 8 deadline to conform its readiness to host the event in January.
Morocco had officially written to CAF request­ing for the postponement of the tournament till June 2015 or January 2016 be­cause of fears over the Eb­ola outbreak. The request was, however, rebuffed by the continental football governing body and it gave the Moroccan federation an ultimatum to confirm its readiness to host the championship as originally scheduled, which the latter has failed.
CAF has remained resolute that there will be no change in the dates of the competition which is scheduled to be played be­tween 17 January and 8 February of next year.
Ghana, South Africa and Egypt are among the coun­tries that indicated interest to host the event in place of Morocco should the lat­ter eventually decide not to host the tournament.
