A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) plane, with registration number NAF 466, has been reported missing. The aircraft, which was said to be on a routine operational mission in Adamawa State, left Yola on September 12 at about 10:45a.m.
A statement by the Director, Defence Information (DDI), Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, said the aircraft, which had two pilots on board, was expected to have returned to Yola, at about 12, noon the same day but failed to do so, thus resulting to the military declaring the plane missing after efforts to establish contact with the aircraft failed.
Already search and rescue efforts have commenced to establish contact with the crew.
Meanwhile, acting Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri yesterday sympathised with the Nigeria Air Force and the entire military over the missing of one its fighter jets confirmed to have crashed in the state while on a mission to flush out insurgents in some towns.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Solomon Kumangar, the acting governor said the people of the state were praying for the safe return of the aircraft’s pilots to their families.
