Siasia drops 10 players over age discrepancies
The second phase of the screening exercise, involving players drawn from the clubs in the Nigerian Premier League, is currently ongoing in Abuja.
SL10.ng gathered that the players were decamped on Friday after the League Management Company (LMC) sent the ages on their league licenses to the team’s handlers.
The ages claimed by the players, according to a reliable source, didn’t correspond with the ones on their licenses, hence, the decision to send them packing from the camp.
However, the dropped players argued that their ages were wrongly computed by their various team secretaries, a situation said to be common with Nigerian clubs.
“I pity the players as most of them look quite young; we have a system where club secretaries in the past ruin league players’ national team careers by computing wrong ages on their licenses,” he said.
“We advised them to go back to sort the issue and we also pleaded with the LMC to correct the cases of those that have strong cases, but overall, our league clubs need to know what they are doing.”
